  • As You Pass through the Waters…

A Personal Story by Lindsey Kirchhoff

Natalie Ann came screaming into the world on July 28, 1986—18 months after me. Feisty and strong willed, Natalie proved right from the start that she was determined.  She embodied the fearless character of Rudy Ruettiger—the hero of the acclaimed movie, “Rudy,” who defied the struggle and achieved his dream of playing football at the prestigious University of Notre Dame.

  • If I Only Had the Nerve

    February 11, 2010

    devotional
    Set:

How many of you know if all your friends and family are saved?  How many of you would have the nerve to simply ask each and every one of your friends and family, "If you died today, do you know 100% where you would spend eternity?  My answer to both of those questions to this point would be, "No".  These are questions that I spend a pretty fare amount of time thinking about, but can't muster up the courage to ask.

  • Can you hear me, now?

    February 11, 2010

    devotional
    Set:

It happens all the time, even to the best of them. Athletes reach the goals they have pursued for years, maybe even a lifetime, and then they do it. Maybe they feel they deserve it. They think, “I’m now successful, so I can let up and compromise in a certain area of my life. It’s small, and it won’t impact me very much.”

  • Oh Snap!

    February 10, 2010

    icebreaker

There are no materials required for this game, just creativity and a good sense of fun! Oh Snap, or Catch the Snap, is a new take on the classic "pass the ball, say your name" game. Instead of a ball, you have...your hand!

What is this game? What do you do?

First, appoint a leader of this game.

Make everyone scramble in the room, but make sure everyone's close to each other.

The leader then begins snapping. He or she now has "The Snap" (the ball).

  • Hit the ‘Stay’ Button

    February 10, 2010

    devotional
    Set:

We all have seen the ads about the “Easy” button. Just hit the Easy button and things become easy. I actually have an Easy button on my desk that doesn’t work anymore, because I used it so much. I think the batteries died.

I love the “easy “button,” but I think a better button would be a “New” button — one that gives us a fresh start. We could hit it at the beginning of a year (or month or day) and start over with a clean slate. Wouldn’t that be great? We could hit the New button for lots of things: diet, workout routine, pets, schools, sports teams, coaches, friends or jobs. The list could go on and on.

  • Control

    February 10, 2010

    devotional
    Set:

Hockey Chat:  Have you ever seen a guy who looked like the puck glued was to his stick.  It may have looked like it from his puck handling.  Those guys frustrate every defenseman.  They have such control of the puck that it’s nearly impossible to take away.  A poor puck handler will leave the puck behind every time.

  • Coaching with Zeal

    February 09, 2010

    devotional
    Set:

We all have times when we feel unmotivated to do our work. It’s not that we don’t love coaching, or the athletes, or the sport, but we do get discouraged by what often seems like a fruitless and tedious process. We feel burdened by the monotony of working, and this detracts from the joy that Jesus Christ gave us.

  • Humility of the Missed Kick

    Humility of the Missed Kick
    Set:

Watching the Super Bowl is always an exciting event, and, with the whole world looking on, this year’s game was one of the highest-rated programs in history. With that many people watching, players are really put under a microscope. Millions of people are watching their every move, and opinions can be formed about the players in the blink of an eye.

This year, something pretty special caught my eye during, and it definitely left an impression on me. Early in the fourth quarter the Colts stalled and were forced to attempt a pretty long field goal that would have added to their lead. There was a great snap, a good hold and what looked like a good kick from Matt Stover. Unfortunately for Stover and the Colts, the kick ended up just left of the upright.

  • Listen Up!

    February 09, 2010

    devotional
    Set:

Hockey Chat: You may not remember Ned Harkness when you think of hockey’s greatest, but he truly was.  His name is not inscribed on the Stanley Cup but it is in the Hockey Hall of Fame.  He didn’t run up the scoreboard with goals but filled the hearts and minds of the players with knowledge and passion.
